ALGARVE IN COLOUR

A very warm welcome to my website. My name is Tony Woods and I am a professional photographer living in the Eastern Algarve in the beautiful town of Tavira. My family and I have been coming to the Algarve for over twenty years and during that time we have come to know the area, it’s people and it’s culture very well. Once my wife and I had decided to retire from our photography studio in the UK, Tavira was our first thought for our new home.

The Algarve is a wonderful area, in the South of Portugal, that stretches from Vila Real de Santo Antonio in the east to Cape St Vincent, the most south-westerly point in Europe – a distance of 100 miles or 161kms. It offers exceptional opportunities for both the novice as well as the more experienced photographer. Access to practically everywhere is relatively easy with a good road system. The Algarve is, of course, famous for it’s favourable climate of never being too cold or too hot.

I am very keen to share my passion and experience of photography with others. I taught, regularly, at our studio back in the UK and now feel the Algarve is, once again, giving me the chance to do the same again. I am now offering photographic workshops to small groups of enthusiasts. My intention is to provide 4 to 5 day workshops starting in May 2010. If you are someone with little or no experience of photography, then these workshops are for you. I will show you how to find subjects to photograph and, once found, how to get the best out of lighting and composition. You will not need the most expensive cameras and accessories. However, the workshops are designed for digital photographers.

We will be travelling throughout the Algarve and visiting many sites not familiar to the casual tourist. As well as the obvious landscape subjects, we will also have many opportunities to photograph architecture, people and the natural history. I will be on hand, at all times, to provide guidance and helpful advice where required. One style of photography that I love is urban portraiture and I will include a workshop on this. We will have a model and I will show you how I take stunning shots out in the open and in bright sunshine!

Time will be allocated to review, critic and learn from each day’s photography by uploading our shots to a computer. We will, also, go over some basic photo editing to help you get the best out of your shots.
